L-com Helps Solar Car Shine 
University of Michigan Solar Car in front of a support vehicle equipped with

Problem
The University of Michigan Solar Car Team, one of the best solar car racing teams in the world, use state-of-the-art equipment for radio communication, global positioning systems, weather predicting, vehicle telemetry, and data acquisition. However, they needed a connectivity solution for the team’s strategic electronic equipment.
Inside one of the labs where different L-com products including coaxial crimp
tool sets and wireless magnet mount antennas and routers play an import
role in the team’s success.
Solution
L-com provided coaxial adapters to help connect the team’s antennas to radio equipment. L-com also provided coaxial cables and a crimp tool set to aid in radio antenna placement within Michigan’s latest Solar Car, Infinium. The team installed two 2.4 GHz magnet mount antennas and two wireless routers in the front and rear support vehicles to set up wireless networks on the race which enhanced the flow of information within the main race caravan. Not only did L-com’s product line save time, they reduced maintenance and repair costs.
