Customizable USB Products
The Universal Serial Bus (USB) standard is often designed into peripheral devices to allow them to connect to a computer, get power, or get external data. The standard is very stable, reasonably fast, and comes with features like being hot-swappable. USB cables are easy for anyone to obtain, and most people now recognize the connector type, so they will know what to do with it. For those reasons there’s no real down-side to using USB on the user end of a product.
The problem comes on the design end. When designing USB into your product or system, you need female USB connectors that can be easily mounted where the user can find and use them. You also need those connectors to be linked to your computer or board.
L-com Global Connectivity is known for its hard-to-find interface solutions, and we have many options to add USB connectivity to virtually anything.
L-com’s proprietary flanged mounting convention is loosely called the “ECF” style. Adapters using this style sturdily mount to panels or chassis up to 0.125” thick (about twice the thickness recommended for keystone mount adapters). Since the flange is on the outside of the panel or chassis, the connector cannot be accidentally pushed in by users when they mate a cable to it. The L-com website offers free downloads of 2D engineering drawings and 3D CAD models to aid in design creation.
ECF Couplers
These USB 2.0 couplers have female jacks on both sides, allowing a user to mate to the front and a designer can use a cable to connect the back to the end product.
ECF Keystone Couplers
Similar to the regular ECF couplers, these kits come with the ECF style mounting frame and a keystone hole cut in it. The kit includes the keystone style shielded USB 2.0 coupler.
ECF Jacks with USB cable attached - terminated
These USB 2.0 products come for Type A and Type B jacks, and feature cables at various lengths with a Type A or Type B plug attached.
ECF Jacks with USB cable attached – unterminated
These USB 2.0 products come for Type A or Type B jacks, and feature cables at 5 meter lengths so you can cut them to fit your application and terminate them any way you want.
ECF Jacks with wire leads
These USB 2.0 jacks also come Type A or Type B and have 10” unterminated wire leads on the back for easy attachment to boards or terminals.
NEW USB 3.0 Type A ECF Jacks with USB 3.0 cable and Type A Male
Coming Soon: USB 3.0 standard ECF jacks with terminated cable attached. USB 3.0 offers speeds up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0. Lengths include 0.3 meters, 0.5 m, 0.75 m and 1m.
Other options – Side-mount Connectors
In the cases where the ECF style jack is too big or unwieldy for a product, L-com also offers USB side-mount jacks. The side-mount style minimizes the connector’s footprint on the outside of the panel or chassis. L-com carries versions of this style with:
