One of the most popular wireless bands is 2.4 GHz because it is the band used for 802.11b/g/n wireless LAN applications. So it’s no surprise that the most popular wireless amplifiers are in that band.
FCC Regulations and FCC Certified Amplifiers
Amplifier products are available for export, military, licensed amateur radio (ham radio) and OEM component sales only and as part of complete FCC Certified Systems. Individual amplifier products are not offered for sale in the USA.
However, L-com does carry FCC certified amplifier kits that are sold as a complete system with a wireless Ethernet adapter and a rubber duck antenna. Available in indoor and outdoor versions, these kits are for sale only in the USA and are available with no special FCC licenses or FCC forms to fill out.
Indoor Amplifiers vs. Outdoor Amplifiers
Indoor amplifiers are typically used anywhere protected from a harsh environment. This includes offices, shops, and inside NEMA enclosures. The amplifier enclosures feature integral mounting feet and come with a 100-240 VAC power supply so they can be plugged into a nearby outlet.
The outdoor amplifiers are designed to be mast mounted and operate in almost any environment. The included DC Power Injector provides power to the amplifier through the coax antenna cable, simplifying installation. This feature also makes these amplifiers good for remote installations such as in warehouse ceiling where access to power sources may be limited.
PoE amplifiers for installations away from convenient power sources
These amplifiers feature a built-in Power-Over-Ethernet interface. This allows the amplifier to receive its power by the same CAT5 cable used to pass Data and Power to an additional PoE device, such as an access point. This eliminates the need for an additional DC Injector and coax cable, simplifying installation. These amplifiers are also available in FCC certified kits for our US customers.
OEM amplifiers serve OEM equipment applications
The final type of 2.4 GHz amplifier that we sell is the OEM Amplifier. These handy amps feature low profile SMA female connectors instead of the larger N female connectors. This helps reduce the overall height of the amplifier, making it ideal for installations with limited space such as Panel Enclosure Antennas.
All of the 2.4 GHz amplifiers (which are available from 100mW to 25 Watt power) that L-com sells come with proprietary Active Power Control (APC). This maintains an even output power regardless of radio strength or cable length. In addition to the 2.4 GHz amps, L-com sells 5.8 GHz, 4.9 GHz and 900 MHz amps.
