L-com's FCC-Certified 2.4GHz Amplifier Kits

L-com is one of a handful of companies that sell FCC-Certified amplifier kits. In the U.S. the sales and operation of wireless LAN (WLAN) amplifiers is governed by Part 15 of the FCC regulations. This states that WLAN amplifiers must be sold and operated as part of a system certified by the FCC and given an FCC ID number. A typical certified system includes an antenna, radio and WLAN amplifier.

The FCC regulations also state it is the manufacturer/seller’s responsibility to ensure that the WLAN amplifiers being sold are part of a certified system. For this reason, L-com now offers FCC-certified amplifier kits for its U.S. customers.

These kits, which have obtained FCC ID numbers, do not require any pre-qualification to purchase, so anyone can buy them. They are legal to sell and operate here in the United States. L-com is one of the few companies that can offer these certified kits to US customers.

So why do I need to buy an FCC-certified kit from L-com?

There are manufacturers and dealers that have WLAN amplifiers available for sale here in the U.S., but these amplifiers do not have an FCC ID number and, in turn, are not part of an FCC-certified system.  This is in clear violation of the FCC Part 15 regulations. These manufacturers/dealers turn over the responsibility of ensuring the amplifier is used in a certified system to the customer. If investigated by the FCC, not only can the manufacturer/dealer be levied a fine, but the end-user can be as well. Certifying a system is a complex and costly process, something a typical end-user would want to avoid.
