For many applications, such as instrumentation and control, serial peripherals, and parallel communications, data cabling is key. L-com supports data cabling applications with a huge variety of cable assemblies, connectors, adapters, couplers, and more. But there’s one specific situation that requires a special type of data cabling: low-smoke, zero halogen cable jackets or LSZH.
LSZH jackets are made from material that provides all of the flexibility, protection and convenience that a typical PVC jacket would provide, but if burned, LSZH jackets release less smoke and no toxic gas.
(Click here for a video showing the burn styles of different cables.)
Why is it important what is released when the cable burns?
If a cable catches fire, it’s possible you may inhale toxic chemicals that can render you unconscious (or worse) when mobility is critical. Such a situation is characteristic of military and aerospace data cabling. Think about it: if a submarine, airplane, or military vehicle catches fire, you can’t easily escape. Equipping these modes of transportation with anything other than true LSZH cabling is unthinkable.

That’s why L-com has expanded its line of LSZH data cabling to include:
