Industrial Networking

Industrial Ethernet products differ from commercial Ethernet applications in several ways. Industrial Ethernet products are built to withstand extreme high and low temperatures, extreme humidity as well as exposure to dust and other particulates. The components used in Industrial Ethernet equipment are more heavy duty than their commercial counterparts. Industrial Ethernet equipment is commonly found in environmentally extreme or hazardous applications including wastewater treatment plants, mining, manufacturing floors, power plants and outdoor surveillance applications. Additionally, most Industrial Ethernet products utilize DC generated power as opposed to AC power.

Ethernet Communications on the Plant Floor
The movement to utilize Ethernet connectivity standards on the plant floor is heavily underway. Suppliers of remote I/O devices are quickly changing from traditional RS485 ports to 10 or 100Mbps Ethernet ports. PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) are now equipped with Ethernet ports as standard equipment.
